Reading & Writing a Life

Clara and Winston

This precious picture of my sweet granddaughter was taken last night.  Clara, her little brother and her mother and daddy were beginning their goodbyes to Winston, their family dog.  They finished those goodbyes earlier today.  I ask Kristine how Clara was doing.  She was sad, of course, and already missing Winston, who greeted her when she came home from the hospital as a newborn.  This morning when Kristine came downstairs she found Clara “reading” her morning storybook to Winston.  The book she chose was Duck for President.  I have no idea why that book but it matters not.  I just love the idea that she knew that the shared act of reading and being read to can and does, at a time like this, bring peace and joy.
